Guided full-day (or half-day) tour of Fes, founded in 789 CE and home to the world’s oldest operating university. Visit includes Royal Palace gates, Karouine Mosque and University (9th c.), Moulay Idriss II tomb, and medieval tanneries. Lunch in a medina restaurant. Afternoon visits to Nejjarine Fountain, Wood Museum, Batha Museum, and medina viewpoint. Evening free for personal exploration or relaxation.
Depart Fes and travel through the Middle Atlas via Imouzzer (cedar, juniper, cork oak forests; wildlife including Barbary macaques). Pass Berber nomadic camps. Lunch stop in Midelt, a market town at Ayachi Mountain. Continue through Ziz Valley (gorges, palm oases, kasbahs). Arrive late afternoon in Merzouga, edge of Sahara. Check into hotel near dunes for dinner and rest.
Morning 4×4 tour of Erg Chebbi dunes (up to 150m high). Visit Berber home (Gnawa music), abandoned mines, nomad camps, and a palm oasis. Return to Merzouga for lunch and rest. Late afternoon camel trek into Sahara with sunset stop. Overnight at luxury desert camp with dinner, Berber music, and storytelling by campfire.
Early sunrise over Sahara, then camel ride back to Merzouga. Drive to Rissani (Alaouite dynasty origin, souk visit), then to Erfoud (fossil workshops). Continue through Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves to Todra Gorges (300m limestone cliffs, walk through canyon). Lunch en route. Proceed to Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades, stopping at “monkey fingers” and viewpoints. Dinner and overnight in Dades.
Depart Dades Valley for Ouarzazate. Visit Atlas Film Studios (sets from Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Game of Thrones). Continue to Ait Ben Haddou (UNESCO ksar, 17th century, film location). Afternoon drive to Marrakech via Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), with photo stops through the High Atlas. Arrive by evening and check into riad in Marrakech medina.
Guided tour of Marrakech. Visit Menara Gardens (12th-century irrigation), Koutoubia Mosque (77m minaret), Majorelle Gardens (Yves Saint Laurent restoration, Islamic Art Museum), Bahia Palace (19th-century residence), and Dar Si Said Museum (arts and crafts). After optional lunch, explore artisan souks. End at Djemaa El Fna Square (street performers, food stalls). Sunset drink on café terrace, dinner at local restaurant, return to riad.
Drive north to Casablanca via central Morocco plains with scenic stops. Time permitting, optional visit to Hassan II Mosque (210m minaret, capacity 105,000). Transfer to Casablanca Mohammed V Airport or optionally to Marrakech Menara Airport for departure.
